The Love Guru Blaire: Building a Bigger Badder Blaire

To contact us Click HERE
Over the last 2 1/2 - almost 3 years now, Spirit has been helping build a bigger, badder me.

I realize this now and I'm grateful for it.

It hasn't always been easy. ?Most of the time it was difficult, painful, and really, really hard. ?(Yes, I know I used different words with the same meaning, but that's how it's been)

I was in a relationship with my Twin Flame, which is reason to celebrate, but it was mostly a difficult, many times traumatic experience.

I've recently learned - again from Spirit - that when you are reclaiming your personal power - when you are becoming acquainted to it for the first time in your life, that the relationship you were in that helped you in the birthing process is many times - traumatic.

The last week or so I've received some tests from Spirit to see if I have successfully learned my lesson of reclaiming and standing in my power.

I think it's safe to say I passed the tests... but again, that's just my hunch :)

I realize how these last 3 years were really here to serve me.
Serve me to break through all the old patterning that I held my whole life.

Usually that's the case.... we have patterns that we have been in our whole life, but when the veil was lifted recently and I was able to see with new eyes - with a new awareness - just exactly what has been going on, huge sadness has come over me.

Yes, this is reason to celebrate - the breaking and healing of old patterns - but it also brought a mourning of my old self. ?A mourning of the?way I let myself be treated by people. ?A mourning of who and how I got into relationships... and how people treated me in such.

This way of being treated was all looked at as normal.

By most standards, ?it?was looked at as "good"..... ?but with my new awareness, there has been sadness because I realize that this way of being treated was really not so good in my eyes.

It wasn't healthy and it wasn't loving.

I realize now that most relationships I have been in - most relationships I have created - have been quite abusive. ?They have been toxic. ?They have been unhealthy.

The hard to grasp part of it for me these days - and this is where the mourning comes into play - is that most people would say that these relationships were just fine... normal.... good.

Now this is a?big topic and one that I may be having trouble explaining here in this post, but regardless I felt the desire to write it.

This week I am on my own Relationship Retreat. ?It came about very suddenly and I just followed my intuitions to go on it.

Sunday was my final test about being in this new awareness of being in my personal power. ?Saying "no" verbally and energetically to someone else who tried to verbally abuse me.

Man, it's amazing how the these tests come in such a subtle way.
How important it is to have awareness.

So I caught the test, said NO to the person, and kept it moving.

Felt proud of myself, but in the need to step away from my day to day life to process things...

Monday I was guided by Spirit to offer you, my students,?The Relationship Retreat
I was given details of how to map out the 3 days, what to include in the time frame and how to write out the purpose of the retreat.

Monday I send out an email to my newsletter to share the news with you...

Tuesday I felt tired and unfocused. ?So many emotions continued to come up. ?So many thoughts and realizations flooded my mind.

I knew I needed to rest my body and my mind.
With so many happenings - and so many lessons - and so many tests lately I knew I needed?to take some days off.

I've been wanting to do a detox and it was becoming clear that the time was coming near.

By late Tuesday I knew it was time for me to start my detox and welcome in a newer, deeper kind of self care. ?I also knew I needed to make it ceremonial. ?A releasing of the old, an?adjusting into my new awareness and a saying goodbye to the ways I have been treated my whole life.

Once again, more sadness in the realizations of how I have been treated by others my whole life.
I knew it was time to mourn my old way of being in relationships and wash my slate clean.

That is what I have been doing now.

Resting and realizing. ?Praying and meditating. ?Eating a vegetarian diet and doing self care... giving myself love and attention. ?Crying, being, writing, singing, talking to myself, talking to my guides, angels and other Spirit Friends and going with the flow.

Surrendering, being, loving... Myself.

Wishing you the best in love,

The science of breaking up via space station re-entry investigation

To contact us Click HERE

ScienceDaily (Oct. 12, 2012) ? When an aerospace engineer says breaking up is hard to do, they are not referring to matters of the heart. Instead, they are looking at best practices for the breakup of large items returning from space to Earth. Understanding what happens during this process is the goal of the ReEntry Breakup Recorder, or REBR. This device hitched a ride on the European Space Agency's Automated Transfer Vehicle-3, or ATV-3, as it departed the International Space Station and re-entered Earth's atmosphere on Oct 2, 2012.

A better grasp of large item breakups could help economize deorbit efforts by aiding engineers as they develop best practices for efficient and safe decommissioning. For some vehicles, such as the Russian Soyuz, this is not a problem -- they are designed to survive re-entry. One-time-use vehicles, however, have any remaining debris targeted for a harmless ocean splashdown. This is where REBR comes in. Think of it as a space vehicle "black box" in a copper shell that can help researchers to find out exactly what happens during re-entry.

In a recent interview, William Ailor, Ph.D. and principal investigator for REBR, spoke of the goals for this study. "What we'd like to know is at what altitude do things come apart? What is the heating? There's some evidence that models, at least prior to this time, have over predicted heating at higher altitudes, which means that you would predict that less survives than actually does," said Ailor. "So one of our objectives with this REBR experiment is to get some definitive data on how objects respond as they re-enter the atmosphere."

The space station crew attaches the REBR hardware to a re-entering vehicle prior to undocking. REBR then records real-time data from the point where the vehicle first senses the atmosphere to splashdown, as the unmanned cargo vessel burns up around it. After the host vehicle breaks apart and REBR releases, REBR makes something similar to a cell phone call to transmit data to a ground computer prior to impact.

The suite of sensors inside of REBR includes the following: a GPS receiver, temperature sensors, accelerometers and rate gyros, a pressure sensor, various electronics, an Iridium modem, a combination GPS/Iridium antenna, and batteries. The exterior shape of the device follows specifications developed by NASA's Langley Research Center that make the device self-stabilizing after release from its copper shell. NASA's Ames Research Center provided preliminary designs for the REBR heat shield and conducted wind tunnel tests to verify subsonic stability -- important for successful transmission of recorded data.

Previous REBR experiments provided data when the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's H-II Transfer Vehicle, or HTV-2, and HTV-3 re-entered the atmosphere, with both vehicles breaking up over the Pacific Ocean. ATV-2 also included REBR hardware, but did not transfer information back. The cause of that data loss is thought to be an explosion of ATV-2 before REBR released from the vehicle.

There is also a safety element associated when large items return from space. "I would say the general rule of thumb is anything that weighs more than 800 kg is something that we would be concerned about, but it depends on what the components of the object are made of and their size and mass, as well," said Ailor. "Experience tells us that anywhere from 10% to 40% of an object's dry mass on orbit will survive to hit the ground, so that means that you have to have an object of sufficient size that has big enough surviving fragments to be a hazard."

Researchers hope to simplify re-entry trajectories for launch vehicles and satellites with their findings, as well as to engineer crafts to come apart in controlled ways -- what they call "design for demise." Experts can use the REBR data to design space hardware that is more predictable and safer when it re-enters. The knowledge gained from understanding how vehicles behave during atmospheric re-entry also means a more cost-effective spacecraft.

"One of the ways for removing space debris from orbit, or removing it as a long-term concern, is to re-enter it into the atmosphere," said Ailor. "There are basically two ways to re-enter things, one is to do it like we are doing it with the ATV-3, which is direct into the ocean, but that can be expensive for somebody who is operating a spacecraft. So if we can lower the hazard sufficiently for these large objects, they could be allowed to re-enter randomly and that reduces the cost substantially for spacecraft operators."

Another way engineers can improve vehicles is to ensure they disintegrate into less hazardous fragments, based on their design. Some may even be eligible for natural decay in orbit. This would mean the item could re-enter without the expensive propellants and operations associated with a controlled deorbit, reducing costs and prolonging the life of the vehicle.

REBR data will contribute to survivability models, as well, which help determine risk assessments and strategies for re-entry. This goes back to the design for demise, which can improve future exploration vehicle engineering, as well as protect people from breakups here on Earth -- though when it comes to breakups of the heart, humans are still on their own.

The Triple Bottom Line: Investing in Women and Girls

SoCap 2012 panelists discussing investment in family planning.

By Suzanne York

One of the biggest returns on investment for people and the planet is supporting the health of women and girls, especially in terms of voluntary family planning services.

As we recognize the International Day of the Girl this October 11th today, it is a good time to go beyond traditional development ideas and consider smart, cost-effective initiatives for truly helping girls in all countries.

For the United Nations, this day is meant ?to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls? lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.?

A recent seminar at the Social Capital 2012 conference in San Francisco, California, sponsored by the Aspen Global Health and Development, part of the Aspen Institute, lived up to that statement, by discussing the benefits of investment in reproductive health. The session was titled Stepping on the Third Rail: Social Capital Markets and Investing in Family Planning, and focused on the need for family planning and how it can be a big investment, in more ways than one.

Karl Hofmann, President and CEO of Population Services International (PSI), firmly believes that women?s and girls? health is not only a good social investment, but an ?incredibly powerful? one. Women?s reproductive health and family planning touch upon so many other issues, and we will not be able to seriously address other pressing concerns without dealing with need for family planning.

Hofmann and Dana Hovig, CEO of Marie Stopes International (MSI), both said this should be talked about within the social capital sector because 215 million women want contraceptives but can?t find it, afford it, or trust it. Perhaps most importantly, or frustratingly, the solutions are out there. We have the solutions, but as Hovig said, we need resources, financing, and political will. And more people are beginning to think that social investment in family planning is the way to go. (note: the Guttmacher Institute uses the estimate of 222 million women)

Timing is everything, and Julie Bernstein, Senior Communications Officer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, feels that the global community is now re-engaged on population and women?s reproductive health issues due to her organization?s sponsored summit on family planning this past summer in London. That gathering of world leaders, policymakers, development specialists, funders and others ?put women back into the heart of the global health agenda?, according to Bernstein.

One of the reasons to target social entrepreneurs, noted both Hoffman and Hovig, is that they often have scaleable solutions that can be implemented fairly quickly, or at least more so than large government entities, and often reach more people.

Social impact bonds are one type of social innovation that could produce results. Astrid Zweynert, Deputy Editor with Thomson Reuters Foundation, said it is a way to raise social investment to pay for a public service. Here, the social investor provides the investment up front, and they only get a return if the desired outcome is achieved. Marie Stopes International, considered a social enterprise, is already raising financing for voluntary family planning services via social impact bonds.

Zweynert wondered why all this social capital innovation couldn?t be used for family planning, as well as use social networks for promoting family planning services. Hoffman said that by working with private sector providers, more people can be reached, and through more innovation. He also suggested performance-based financing, where investors buy future outcomes (with a social objective) and the marketplace will find who is most successful.

Why is this so important for girls? Hoffman noted that what happens in a very few countries (namely Sub-Saharan Africa) will determine if we grow to over 10 billion people on the planet. And by going the social capital route, the focus isn?t only on profits but is on the triple bottom line ? financial, social and environmental impacts. ?We are not in demographic handcuffs? he noted, ?but we will be if we don?t reach the 215 million women who want contraceptives.?

The panelists were asked about how they might utilize a hypothetical $2 million investment. Hoffman from PSI said he would target Niger, which has the highest fertility in the world, with a social marketing effort on contraception to raise usage rates and produce measurable results. Bernstein from Gates Foundation noted the difficulties for women to get to health clinics. She would replicate what Ethiopia has done with community health workers who go door-to-door and get to know the women. Ethiopia has had much success expanding health service delivery, especially in rural areas.

As for Hovig of MSI, he would have a Chinese manufacturer produce generic condoms and get it to retail outlets in Africa. The manufacturer would make money, women would get contraceptives, investors would get their investment back, and even MSI would make some money.

One of the forces behind linking social capital and women?s health is Peggy Clark, Executive Director of Aspen Global Health and Development. She understands how family planning and women?s reproductive health has been a huge third rail issue, and has the vision to see that despite this, there is a big market for family planning services. As stated many times during the panel, we know what works, and we know what women want. This is an investment that will pay big dividends for girls on the International Day of the Girl and way, way beyond.

Don't worship paper money, don't have blind faith in paper money, or you will lose a ton of purchasing power. History has shown this to be the case time after time!

Economists and TV commentators keep saying that when there's a global economic slowdown, precious metals prices will go down. I don't know whether the second part of their statement is true in the short-run, but in the long-run, it is definitely wrong.

The more important question is: Slowdown of what relative to what?

If car producers have a slowdown in demand relative to fish producers, it may mean you can use less fish to buy more cars, because fish has become more valuable relative to cars. So the fish producers gain purchasing power relative to car producers. The car producers lose purchasing power relative to fish producers.

Even IF globally, there's a meltdown in prices - stocks, housing, agriculture, precious metals, etc - I still think precious metals (and agriculture) will gain in purchasing power relative to other things. The fundamentals for this is so strong.

If there is a collapse in global supply of real goods, real goods will gain in purchasing power relative to paper money (therefore, goods prices in terms of paper money goes up).

If there is a collapse in global demand of real goods, real goods will still gain in purchasing power relative to paper money, because so much has been printed in the past few years. And politicians and central banks are going to print even more during crisis.

It has always been about the transfer of purchasing power (or wealth) from one place to another. If people REALLY understood this principle and how it works, Keynesianism would have been extinct a long time ago. Yet, the majority of the people on the globe still have Keynesian ideas. Whether they identify themselves as a Keynesian or not is immaterial.

Aaron BerryAP

The Jets had an obvious need at cornerback when they signed former Lion Aaron Berry, but they weren?t so desperate they didn?t investigate him thoroughly.

They did a background check, and got an endorsement from quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh, who was on the Pitt staff that coached Berry in college.

?All precincts reported,? Jets coach Rex Ryan said of the check. ?We feel Aaron has a chance to be successful on and off the field here. If we didn?t believe that, we wouldn?t bring him in here.?

The man he?s replacing, Darrelle Revis, also had a message for him.

?He just told me, ?Learn from your mistakes and take advantage of this opportunity,?? Berry told USA Today?s Mike Garafolo. ??Because you?re not going to get a third.??

To his credit, Berry knows he?s standing at the plate with two strikes after a pair of offseason arrests which led to a three-game suspension.

Asked by Garafolo what he told the Jets, Berry admitted he screwed up.

?Did I make two big, dumb mistakes? Yes, I did. But am I a bad person? No,? Berry said. ?And people who know me and supported me in this league and throughout college were able to get that through to them as well.

?[The Jets] trusted me, and I?d be a fool to let them down with another mistake.?

Now where would anyone get an idea like that?

Berry didn?t talk about his two arrests, one for DUI and another for waving a gun, both in his hometown of Harrisburg, Pa.?His attorney, Corky Goldstein, said he?s close to rolling both charges into one plea deal which will result in around 72 hours of jail time plus probation, fines and community service.

Goldstein said Berry ?should?ve left a note,? when he hit a parked car which led to the DUI, and explained the other charge involved ?a very small revolver.?

Yes, because no one?s ever been hurt by teeny, tiny guns, and drunk drivers are safer when they leave notes with their insurance information.

Having such excuses made for him doesn?t speak to true contrition, but Berry is being given a chance to make amends. His actions, not his words or the words of a lawyer named Corky, will reveal his true character.

?You don?t get this opportunity too many times,? Berry said. ?People would die to be in my shoes, so I don?t want to let that pass up ever again.?

He?s right about that part, and so is Revis on the issue of how many chances he?ll get.

Make The Effort To Change, Part 1 ? Empowering Your Mind

To contact us Click HERE

by Linda-Ann Stewart

At a meeting, I was talking with a woman and mentioned Joseph Murphy and his best-selling book, ?Power of the Subconscious Mind.? She asked, ?In his book, did he explain why the subconscious doesn?t work for most people??

That set me back. The subconscious mind is always working, and it responds according to the nature of your thoughts. But one thing can prevent the subconscious from making the changes a person wants. I responded, ?Because they don?t work it.?

?Oh,? she replied. ?I guess that?s true. Nothing changes if you aren?t willing to work on it.? I quietly sighed, thinking of all the people I knew who didn?t work on an issue, then complained when change didn?t happen.

Most people resist change and it takes effort to overcome that. Inertia can take over, causing you to drift and stalling your progress. It takes determination to pull out of it and move in a different direction. Change doesn?t happen overnight, nor does it happen without applying shifts in thinking and behaving. Your old ways of doing things are simply habits, and can be changed. But it takes attention to alter your course and initiative to put it into action.

Posting affirmation signs around the house won?t help if you don?t repeat the statement frequently. They work by modifying the things you automatically say to yourself. Passively glancing at them without noticing them won?t make much of an impression on your subconscious. You have to be pro-active in impressing the concepts on your inner mind.

Wanting to be more positive won?t work unless you pay attention and change your attitude when you find your thoughts straying into negative territory. Just as you have to turn the car around when you realize you?re going to the gas station when you meant to go to the store, you have to re-focus your attention when your thoughts go in the wrong direction.

Bill Gross Says Gold Will Thrive in 'Ring of Fire' -- MrSwing

To contact us Click HERE

Bill Gross is one of the most recognizable names in the investment world. He is the founder and co-chief investment officer at bond fund giant PIMCO. His long-term track record regarding bonds is among the best and he still runs the world?s biggest bond fund, the PIMCO Total Return Fund.

Gross is also known for speaking quite bluntly about the United States? growing debt problem. His latest monthly market commentary came with a warning for the U.S. and investors alike. Gross stated that a number of recent studies have concluded that ?The U.S. balance sheet, its deficit and its ?fiscal gap? is in flames and that its fire department is apparently asleep at the station house.?

The recent studies Gross pointed to came from the Congressional Budget Office, the International Monetary Fund and the Bank of International Settlements. The studies calculated that the United States needs to cut spending or raise taxes by 11% of GDP over the next 5-10 years. This translates to $1.6 trillion per year. That compares to the country?s 8% of GDP deficit in 2011. Those numbers put the U.S. in the ?ring of fire? with other countries with similar fiscal gap sizes. These countries include Greece, Spain, Japan, France and the U.K.

Gross warned that the U.S. debt problems have put the country in this ?ring of fire? that will burn most investors. The only investors who will not get ?burned?? He says the lucky few will be those that are protected by gold and other real assets, protected from a severe U.S. dollar depreciation caused by the Federal Reserve?s money printing.

In a white paper titled ?GOLD ? The Simple Facts? posted on PIMCO?s website, PIMCO analysts Nicholas J. Johnson and Mihir P. Worah also said some interesting things. Here is an excerpt, ?Our bottom line: given current valuations and central bank policies, we see gold as a compelling inflation hedge and store of value that is potentially superior to fiat currencies.? They pointed out the positive supply/demand characteristics of gold as a big plus in their scenario. The PIMCO analysts went on to say, ?We believe investors should consider allocating gold and other precious metals to a diversified investment portfolio.?

That is quite a statement coming from a ?mainstream? investment firm. Wall Street?s usual reaction to gold is that it is a barbarous relic whose only use is in jewelry and that no sane investor should put any money into it, even paper gold instruments such as gold ETFs like the SPDR Gold Shares ) and others.

After Bill Gross? bullish words, gold prices were trading a 7-month high on Thursday before falling Friday to finish the week at about $1776.00 an ounce.

From a technical analysis point of view gold, silver and gold miners have been holding value at key resistance levels. While we could see a 3-5% pullback before they breakout and start the next rally overall the outlook for precious metals remains very strong and I put a $2400 per ounce on gold for 2013. Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2012: Smart receptors on cell surfaces

To contact us Click HERE

ScienceDaily (Oct. 10, 2012) ? The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2012 to Robert J. Lefkowitz Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Duke University Medical Center and Brian K. Kobilka Stanford University School of Medicine "for studies of G-protein-coupled receptors."

Your body is a fine-tuned system of interactions between billions of cells. Each cell has tiny receptors that enable it to sense its environment, so it can adapt to new situtations. Robert Lefkowitz and Brian Kobilka are awarded the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for groundbreaking discoveries that reveal the inner workings of an important family of such receptors: G-protein-coupled receptors.

For a long time, it remained a mystery how cells could sense their environment. Scientists knew that hormones such as adrenalin had powerful effects: increasing blood pressure and making the heart beat faster. They suspected that cell surfaces contained some kind of recipient for hormones. But what these receptors actually consisted of and how they worked remained obscured for most of the 20th Century.

Lefkowitz started to use radioactivity in 1968 in order to trace cells' receptors. He attached an iodine isotope to various hormones, and thanks to the radiation, he managed to unveil several receptors, among those a receptor for adrenalin: ?-adrenergic receptor. His team of researchers extracted the receptor from its hiding place in the cell wall and gained an initial understanding of how it works.

The team achieved its next big step during the 1980s. The newly recruited Kobilka accepted the challenge to isolate the gene that codes for the ?-adrenergic receptor from the gigantic human genome. His creative approach allowed him to attain his goal. When the researchers analyzed the gene, they discovered that the receptor was similar to one in the eye that captures light. They realized that there is a whole family of receptors that look alike and function in the same manner.

Today this family is referred to as G-protein-coupled receptors. About a thousand genes code for such receptors, for example, for light, flavour, odour, adrenalin, histamine, dopamine and serotonin. About half of all medications achieve their effect through G-protein-coupled receptors.

The studies by Lefkowitz and Kobilka are crucial for understanding how G-protein-coupled receptors function. Furthermore, in 2011, Kobilka achieved another break-through; he and his research team captured an image of the ?-adrenergic receptor at the exact moment that it is activated by a hormone and sends a signal into the cell. This image is a molecular masterpiece -- the result of decades of research.

'Semi-dwarf' trees may enable a green revolution for some forest crops

To contact us Click HERE

ScienceDaily (Sep. 27, 2012) ? The same "green revolution" concepts that have revolutionized crop agriculture and helped to feed billions of people around the world may now offer similar potential in forestry, scientists say, with benefits for wood, biomass production, drought stress and even greenhouse gas mitigation.

Researchers at Oregon State University recently outlined the latest findings on reduced height growth in trees through genetic modification, and concluded that several advantageous growth traits could be achieved for short-rotation forestry, bioenergy, or more efficient water use in a drier, future climate.

This approach runs contrary to conventional wisdom and centuries of tree breeding, which tried to produce forest trees that grow larger and taller, the researchers note. But just as the green revolution in agriculture helped crops such as wheat and rice produce more food on smaller, sturdier plants, the opportunities in forestry could be significant.

"Research now makes it clear that genetic modification of height growth is achievable," said Steven Strauss, an OSU professor of forest genetics. "We understand the genes and hormones that control growth not only in crop plants, but also in trees. They are largely the same."

In a study published in Plant Physiology, researchers inserted a number of genes into poplar trees, a species often used for genetic experiments, and valuable for wood, environmental and energy purposes. They described 29 genetic traits that were affected, including growth rate, biomass production, branching, water-use efficiency, and root structure. All of the changes were from modified gibberellins, plant hormones that influence several aspects of growth and development.

The range and variation in genetic modification can be accurately observed and selected for, based on hormone and gene expression levels, to allow production of trees of almost any height.

For example, for ornamental purposes it would be possible to grow a miniature poplar, or even a Douglas-fir, as a potted plant.

And because height growth, in competition for sunlight, is a primary mechanism that trees use to compete for survival, there would be reduced concern about use of such genetically modified trees in a natural environment. On a long-term basis they would be unable to compete, shaded by larger trees and ultimately they would die out.

Scientists could also produce trees that might have a larger root mass, which should make them more drought-resistant, increase water use efficiency, increase elimination of soil toxins and better sequester carbon. This could be useful for greenhouse gas mitigation, bioremediation or erosion control.

Smaller trees could also be selected that have sturdier trunks for some uses in short-rotation plantation forestry, significantly reducing the number of trees blown down by wind. And shorter, thicker and straighter trunks might create higher-value wood products in many tree species, Strauss said.

Some semi-dwarf trees produced by conventional tree breeding techniques are already an important part of the horticulture industry, allowing easier harvesting of fruit and higher yields. Genetic modification could add new characteristics and more scientific precision to the process, researchers said.

"The main limitation is the onerous regulatory structure for genetically-modified plants in the United States," Strauss said. "Even short, safe and beneficial trees are unlikely to be able to bear the high costs and red tape inherent to obtaining regulatory approval."

This research has been supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Science Foundation, and industry members of the Tree Biosafety and Genomics Research Cooperative at OSU.

UK's Labour to impose "real" bank split if elected: Miliband

To contact us Click HERE

MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Britain's Labour opposition leader launched an offensive against banks on Sunday ahead of his party's annual conference, promising a "real separation" of retail and investment banking and to raise the top rate of personal income tax.

The Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government has said it will implement the recommendations of an independent review by Oxford University economist John Vickers into how banks should be structured in the wake of the global credit crisis.

But critics, including Vickers, have lamented the watering down of some of the proposals - including the definition of the ring fence between retail and investment arms and the ratio of loans to capital that banks can hold on their books.

Britain's banks - including Barclays, RBS, Lloyds and HSBC - will have until 2019 to make the changes with the government committed to write the new rules into law by 2015.

Labour accuses the government of caving in to fierce lobbying by the financial sector.

"Either they can do it themselves - which frankly is not what has happened over the past year - or the next Labour government will, by law, break up retail and investment banks," Labour leader Ed Miliband said.

"The banks and the government can change direction and say that they are going to implement the spirit and principle of Vickers to the full - that means the hard ring-fence between retail and investment banking. We need real separation, real culture change. Or we will legislate."

Some in the Conservative-led government had been concerned that punishing the financial sector could damage the competitiveness of the City of London, a major global financial center, and potentially harm a crucial part of Britain's recession-hit economy.

Miliband's warning to the banks comes ahead of his party's annual conference in the northern English city of Manchester, where he is under pressure to explain to voters how it would govern if elected in 2015.

Miliband, who replaced former prime minister Gordon Brown as Labour leader after that defeat, has struggled to make a good impression on voters so far. While opinion polls show Labour would win an election tomorrow, his own personal approval ratings languish below those of Prime Minister David Cameron.

Seeking to capitalize on a perception of Cameron's government as too friendly to the wealthy in an era of austerity, Miliband said Labour would reverse a tax cut for the highest earners in this year's budget which saw the highest rate of income tax drop to 45 percent from 50 percent.

Fit Tip: Improve Your Speed and Improve Your Game | Fitness Town ...

To contact us Click HERE

The difference between catching and missing that long touchdown pass (or the train for your morning commute) comes down to only seconds and inches, but can end up costing a lot more. Put some hustle behind your muscle and improve your overall speed with these easy and quick tips from the experts at?Life Fitness?and Fitness Town.

Do Strength Training. View your body as an engine: more horsepower means quicker acceleration and faster speeds overall. Focus on building strength throughout your lower body with calf raises, squats, lunges and leg presses and pay special attention to your hip flexors. Powerful hip flexors will improve your range of motion and are the key to sprinting faster. Try the Dual Adjustable Pulley machine for single leg and balance work. In addition to your lower body, strengthening your core will improve your speed, balance, and agility by fortifying the connection between the muscles of the upper and lower body.

Do Plyometrics. Plyometric training involves high-intensity, explosive muscular contractions, which enables your muscles to exert maximum force in the shortest amount of time possible, thereby improving your speed. Pre-stretch your muscles and then harness their maximum force by utilizing jumping, bounding, and hopping movements. Jumping jacks, split jumps, squat jumps and box jumps will torch calories and build lean muscle while helping you log faster times.

Do Intervals. Amp up your overall speed with interval training, which alternates short, high intensity bursts of speed with slower recovery phases in a single workout. Interval training will enhance your cardiovascular capacity (the ability to deliver oxygen to the working muscles) and ultimately leads to increased acceleration and speed.

Put on the Brakes. Speed is more than just a mad, reckless dash. As an athlete, maintaining control over your movements and agility is paramount to your performance. You can?t stop and turn on a dime with your legs flailing wildly beneath you, right? The key to slowing down is to have flexible legs, bent knees and lowered hips. Staying low will occur naturally if you are strong enough. Practice flexibility training multiple times per week. Warm up before workouts with dynamic movements and cool down with static stretches.

Family struggles to rebuild lives (video)

Sitting at a table outside after the heat fades with the afternoon, Kelvin Montgomery, 11, painstakingly writes out his spelling words.

He doesn't mind sitting outside to do his homework, he says, as long as it's not too hot.

"There just isn't room inside for the table," said Kelvin's grandma, Pamela Steward. "But I just tell the little ones we are having a picnic outside to make a game out of it, instead of it being like we have to."

Steward, guardian of Kelvin and his four brothers, ages 3-15, lost her home - and everything in it - to an accidental fire on Sept. 22.

The fire in the 1000 block of Pecan Street was deemed accidental by Fire Marshal Tom Legler, who said the cause was flammable or combustible gas or vapors being too close to the water heater.

After the fire, the family stayed in a hotel for three nights, provided by the American Red Cross. An additional night in the hotel was donated by a neighbor.

Now, the family of six lives in a temporary, two-bedroom apartment made available by Mid-Coast Family Services.

Steward's gaze can sweep over the cramped apartment in one glance - two of the boys sleep on the couch, two share a small room with twin beds and the youngest, 3, sleeps with Steward.

"I just want my home," said Steward, as she struggled to hold back tears. "I just want another home where these kids will feel comfortable and safe, and feel whole again."

Even though they still don't have a home to call their own, Steward said she has been amazed by the outpouring of community support.

"First and foremost, we have Jesus. We are all here and we are still standing," Steward said, grateful the family wasn't home when the fire started. "And by His grace, this is just a chapter of our life that we are going through and He (God) is going to see us through."

Teryl Taylor, a close family friend managing the donations, said he has received about 70 calls from people as far away as Port Lavaca and Goliad wanting to donate clothes and food.

An account set up for donations at TDECU already has $9,000, Steward said.

All of that money, Steward said, is going to building a new house on the lot she already owns on Pecan Street.

"They are eager to get back, and every chance I get, I will take them back to visit their friends ... they are like extended family," Steward said about her neighbors. "We will be back."

She estimates they will need $20,000 before they can start rebuilding. In the meantime, the family is looking for a larger home.

"We are trying to find her something better, because we know it is cramped here," Jeff Ralston, a caseworker for Mid-Coast, said. "But it has been a struggle to find her something, because the rent has jumped with the oil boom and she has a fixed budget."

Sean Shirey, a member of the Church at Spring Creek, has never met Steward or the children, but is having a fundraiser for them in November.

After reading about the fire in the Advocate on Sept. 23, Shirey, who was homeless for a few months when he lived with his dad, said he felt like he had to do something.

"With my past experience with being homeless and losing a home - it was hard, just trying to feed myself ... I don't want to leave anyone homeless. Everyone deserves a home," Shirey said.

His band, Shawn Guzman & Texas Soul, will perform at the church with all ticket proceeds benefiting the family. He hopes to raise $1,000.

Steward, who is recovering from a broken knee and is in remission from bone cancer, said the hardest part during the ordeal has been keeping the children upbeat.

"I'm trying to keep a smile on their face and keep them focused, letting them know this isn't the end, this a new beginning. Trying to let them know that things will get better. We will get a home," she said.

Steward said despite all of the donations, there are some things that can't be replaced, like the boys' football trophies and photos of her parents.

"It's never going to be same," Quentin Jordan, 15, said. "I'm used to coming home and reminiscing and looking at the pictures, like from when we were kids and stuff, and they are all gone. It is all gone."

Even the youngest, Kolson, 3, is sad his toys and his room "got fired. They all got fired."

Additionally, all of the boys were on asthma medication, which was lost in the fire. Steward is still trying to get that replaced, hoping none of them have an asthma attack.

Still, the most important thing, she said, is they all managed to stay together.

"Family is forever - that is the unity and that is our goal, to stay together," Steward said. "That is the way I raised them and that is the way they are going to be. I refuse to separate them. I tell them, if we have to sleep in the car, we are all going to be together. That is no option."

'Semi-dwarf' trees may enable a green revolution for some forest crops

ScienceDaily (Sep. 27, 2012) ? The same "green revolution" concepts that have revolutionized crop agriculture and helped to feed billions of people around the world may now offer similar potential in forestry, scientists say, with benefits for wood, biomass production, drought stress and even greenhouse gas mitigation.

UK's Labour to impose "real" bank split if elected: Miliband

Don't worship paper money, don't have blind faith in paper money!

To contact us Click HERE
Don't worship paper money, don't have blind faith in paper money, or you will lose a ton of purchasing power.

PFT: Colts' coach has leukemia? |? An ordeal
